TLDR; it’s so brilliant.
Okay, giving up every other Saturday for 6 months you would expect to be a chore, I certainly did! But in fact I found myself looking forward to the sessions and now that it’s over really missing them!
The fortnight between classes had homework - reading scripts, writing on our solo projects and watching key titles with our newly acquired frameworks in mind - all to look at with the other group members in the next class. This gave me structure and accountability plus a network of people to bounce ideas off. I just know I wouldn’t have packed so much learning and analysis into that time without the course. I find keeping to self-set deadlines and moving through writing blocks difficult, but this process was not only about the technical side of learning to write but also how to become a writer. How to motivate yourself, how to use your time, how to collaborate, how to find inspiration. Basically skills which you will use for your entire writing career.
Timur clearly loves what he does and that is so infectious, everyone in our group came away feeling invigorated and ready to start their next project. His knowledge of the industry and experience of storytelling combine to make him a thoughtful, curious and highly knowledgeable teacher with so much insight. Plus he’s fun, and that’s the important bit, right? Let’s be honest.
